Chili Line brakeman Clarence M. Massey (12-30-1886=5-3-1946) started on the railroad as a brakeman on 10-5-1917 and was promoted to conductor on 2-15-1923. About the time he started railroading his marriage to Celia Rose Grantham deteriorated and by 1930 he was living in Nellie Hill's boarding house in Alamosa. One of the other boarders was engineer Oscar Caldwell.
Massey married Mrs. Hill, a widow, on 12-31-1931 but she died on 3-2-1938 after complications from surgery. In 1939 Massey earned $733 on 46 weeks work. He had an eight-grade education.
He is buried next to Nellie in Alamosa.
