Take the binders off and pull the shoes and wedges before jacking and the boxes drop.I kind of think that the problem is on the axle bearing surface That one has been through so much over many years you probably need to clean up alot of neglect all through the running gear.
When we jacked up the 318 at the CRRM we were amazed that the poor old thing was able to run at all. It was missing half of its hub liners. Springs were of different sizes, and everything was pretty well worn out.
Bearing surfaces were water marked and pitted. The nice thing about these smaller engines is that alot of the pieces parts are not that hard to replace if you have access to a machine shop and a good welder.
