Those are the work of Monte Ballough and published in Doris Osterwald's book, Beyond the Third Rail.

There is a reprint of the Durango Evening Herald article 19th July 1917 on pg130 describing the fatal accident 58 miles from Durango just East of Carracas that killed the Engineer Billy Edwards and injured 3 others.

Apparently the train hit cattle after rounding a sharp curve.
