Gents,
From an old issue of the Silverton Standard. Enjoy!

"TRAIN RIDERS POUR IN; MORE EQUIP. NEEDED
The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad is turning down more
business each day as rail enthusiasts pour into Durango to ride the
last narrow gauge train in the country. Reports reaching here are to
the effect that from 50 to 100 each day are turned away because of
the lack of accomodations. The rail company doesn't seem to be
interested in taking care of the growing business because they want
to junk the line! As of July 14th, 12,086 had ridden the train this
season. This is over a thousand ahead of last year.
RR COMPANY DRAWS ARTIFICIAL DIFFERENCE
The D&RGW presents as one of their flimsy excuses for asking for
abandonment, 'We are not in the tourist business.' If a man and his
family come from Minneapolis to ride the broad gauge California
Zephyr, the D&RGW likes it and calls it passenger business. If the
same man and his family ride the train between Durango and Silverton,
the D&RGW calls this tourist business, not passenger business. What
the Sam Hill is the difference in these two train trips? Isn't this
family just as much a group of tourists on the California Zephyr as
on The Silverton? - L.R.B."
