If the semaphore that is there now (which is not original to the place) was replaced with
a "Harrington" lower quadrant type on a wood mast like the original one was, a small solar panel and sufficient battery for a light could be incorporated inconspiciously right in or on the original oil lamp assembly that goes on top of the mast .
On that kind of semaphore, the lamp was a white light with a shroud/vent over the top, and the lenses or roundels in the semaphore arm assemblies turned up on either side of it, showing a red or green aspect east and west depending on whether the semaphore was set at "stop" (arm horizontal) or "proceed" (arm down at 45-60 degrees from horizontal.
(see the drawing I placed in my post earlier on this thread)
That would be a neat project for the Friends to take on sometime, if parts for that kind of semaphore could be recovered somewhere. There were thousands of those in use all over the country at one
time, so it is inconceivable that some original parts could not be located from somewhere, and a new mast and new wood blades fabricated to restore that signal to it's original configuration.
