The desert country on the East End has a charm all its own; I especially like those small wooden trestles. The one at m.p. 486.72 was one of my favorite spots on the entire railroad for shooting eastbound trains, but - sadly - it was torn out and replaced by a culvert in 2009. There was an even nicer, three-span trestle at m.p. 287.50, but access was difficult without a 4WD vehicle and I didn't manage to get any photos there before it too was 'culvertized' in 2010. (See [

p.s. to Roger: Is there any snow on Mt. Blanca yet?? If so, the next time you're out on the East End can you go another three miles or so and get a video of a train whistling for the crossing at m.p. 287.45 and then crossing the
trestle culvert at m.p. 287.50? IMHO, since you can see the train coming for about a mile with Mt. Blanca behind, that would make an impressive shot!! (See middle photo on [
