Hi John et al -

Luckily Roger didn't take a fall while taking his superb fall video!   eye rolling smiley

And, just as Roger predicted, the fall colors are coming in fine in spite of the caterpiggles earlier in the year - even if the fall colors in Silverton did leave Chama's leaves behind for a week or ten days.

BTW, I like the view from Roger's Rock, a bit south of Windy Point, better than from on top of the Point itself - mainly because from Roger's Rock you not only have a great view down the valley and down onto the crossing at Coxo, you also have a great view of trains coming around Windy Point!   See [ngdiscussion.net].

Actually, you don't even have to hike the entire way up to Roger's Rock.  Three years ago this weekend, my daughter Cindy and I hiked only to the second or third switchback on the trail - about halfway to The Rock - and were able to see the train off and on for about forty minutes as it crossed the highway above Dalton and rounded Hamilton's Point:

... wove through the trees beyond to just below Perry's Pond / Mudhen Marsh:

... crossed the highway at Coxo:

... passed below the knob of Kodak Rock:

... and eventually came around Windy Point:

The next time you visit the C&TS, take an extra day or two if you can - and get away from the highway.   In most cases you can cover only one or two locations per day, but IMHO it's worth the effort!   See [ngdiscussion.net] for crude maps to some of the more interesting spots.

p.s. OOOoooops! There is a link on [ngdiscussion.net] referring to some pics on [ngdiscussion.net], but the pics on the latter have somehow disappeared - I assume they must have been eaten by the tent caterpiggles back in June, or Roger just moved them somewhere else to keep them safe, or maybe he hid them away to keep innocent NGDF newbies from seeing terrifying photos of Yores Trooley and the JéBêWèX ...
