I assume you must have to have the dimensions available to imput for making your models. I would think that it would be considerable work just to get the dimensions and features worked out ahead of modeling.
I sometimes make Autocad 2D layout and detail drawings with all the dimensions before starting the Solidworks models. For making the models, you just grow the features one at a time by extruding solids or cuts, mirroring, making arrays, etc.
Solidworks is fine for capturing the design in 3D, but its lighting, texturing, and perspective options seem incredibly complex. I asked you about Carrara once before, and I did look into it, but I wonder how much it would take to get up to speed using it. I suppose I could find a tutuorial on You Tube to get an idea of what it would be like.
