A brief history on C&S rotary 99200 and 99201. (99201 pictured above)
When the Climax branch was sg, 99200 was the rotary based out of Leadville. 99200 was the older of the two rotaries being built in the late DSP&P days and it was the one that burned in the Como roundhouse fire and was rebuilt in 1936. It was based out of Como for most of its C&S career and then moved to Leadville in 1937. It was used exclusively on the ng until the conversion of the Climax line. It was converted to sg and was used on the Climax branch until it broke a crankshaft and was scrapped in the late 1940's.
99201 replaced 99200 On the Climax branch after it was scrapped. 99201 was built in the 1899 for use on the ng but was soon converted to sg in 1903. It served briefly again on the ng from 1935-1937 then it was converted back to sg once service ceased between Waterton and Climax. It was used on the front range until 99200 was scrapped and then was reassigned to Leadville where it served out the rest of its operational career. After retirement it found its way to the CRRM where it resides today.
