Why are you posting this reply to my post above. It doesn't have 315 mentioned only the 6235 in response to Randall's request.
No doubt there are huge pitfalls to making money with a venture like the 315 since the group doesn't own track to operate on. Thus the revenue is cut back considerably. I am sure its a fine line financially for sure.
I guess what Kevin M and I are trying to point out is that not only are financial problems an issue for trips, but that the clock is ticking on the boiler time.
I know a few groups who had boiler time creep up and finally decided not to rebuild, and that was the end. Then a few years after they and others regretted the fact they did not rebuild, but then it was either too costly or there were other reasons and the engine never ran again.
I was not trying to judge anything regarding the 315 as I have no knowledge of what goes on there, and have never seen the engine. My info on 6325 comes from more first hand information, and it has not run since 2004, even though the boiler itself is good, but it has only about 3-4 years left on it.
Perhaps you could look into some possible movie work. That could be a scenario where you have fewer expenses in the long run, and don't have to deal with ticket sales. Russ's idea about Coors, in a sense gave me that idea. It would not hurt to do a marketing campaign, by making up a short promotional video of 315, that could be sent to hollywood production houses for example. Advertising agencies would be another place to go. Just food for thought.
