Hi, again -
It was blistering hot on Monday and Tuesday, so we didn't make as much progress as we
had hoped to, and broke early in the afternoon. IIRC, there was some very welcome cloud
cover Wednesday afternoon, and we worked a little later. We had acquired the pneumatic
scalers by then as well, so things were moving along quite a bit faster.
(Note that the following photos have had dates added since first posted, and have have been re-arranged in chronological order.)
Karen continues to repair window sills while Thómas scales paint and rust from the front and rear of the engineer's side of the cab

The right front of the cab after final scaling, and Larry Farrell wire-brushing the fireman's window frame

Here are John and Larry Farrell and Thómas Madrid working at the back of the cab, and the front of the cab with #488 in the shop behind
:
With the engineer's side done, Larry scaled a ladder to scale the upper corner on the fireman's side. On Friday engineer/fireman/hostler/sheriff/singer-songwriter Ed Stabler dropped by for a visit - and to make sure the primer colors used on the cab were histörically appropriate

Here are first-timers John and his dad Larry Farrel from Texas, their friend Thómas Madrid at the far right, Yours Truly from California and fifth-year volunteer Karen Stover in the middle of a very tired but happy crew near the end of the week

Come join in the effort if you can this August, or next year for sure!!
Who knows - maybe you too can proudly wear a #483 "Scarlet Harlot" baseball cap to your local watering hole
... and suffer the consequences!

p.s. Craig McMullen of The Friends has been given the damaged door and windows from #483; he will repair or replicate them in his shop during the off-season(s). Fortunately - unlike the rather unique #315 - #483 has eight siblings whose components can serve as patterns for replacement parts. Also, per John Engs, many of the parts taken from #483 are stored in one of The Friends boxcars
