I do know that many selfless people put up a lot of money in so-called loans for the start up of the RGRPC. I don't know if they now expect their priciple back. I would optimistically think not.
The future existance of the railroad is more important than the RGRCP, the Friends or even the merchants. The only way to assure it is through sufficient funding. I'm not convinced that "Another Century of Narrow Gauge Steam" will be enough. We need something bigger like the greater support of the Colorado Historical Society. They award $15 million a year in grants and run 10 museums (including the ownership of much of the Georgetown Loop Railroad). Why can't they and a like body from New Mexico afilliate themselves with the C&TS Commission? The CHS' income base is from the Colorado Casinos. What about the New Mexico Indian Casinos?
