3900 people in one weekend all to ride a bunch of old funny looking birds = BIG BUCKS. I think they might have made more money on tickets and sales per day than Thomas. And they met the SCFD tier 2 by Saturday afternoon so I hear. Now they have more money to continue to restore and expand.
And as for why it would be less than ideal to have Goosefest in Dolores is their lack of track. The CRRM was ideal because 3 of the 6 geese were already there. But perhaps, just perhaps, someday the Goosefest can be held on the CATS or D&S. But like the #3, the powers that be have to approve the action and after #2 was rear-ended on the D&S, I think the CRRM trustees are leery of it happening again. However, the museum volunteers PROVED you can run 6 geese in close proximity without incident (well, other than normal goose parts falling off.)
