If we lose something of historical significance, whether due to ignorance (bad) or inevitable but well-intentioned practicality (less bad, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do), then a certain amount of historical passion is of the utmost importance to preserve in documentation (at least) that which is lost. I don't see what's so misguided about wanting to do that, or to want it saved in the first place, or to even express a heartfelt opinion about it here. Lord knows there's enough green boiler discusion to balance it out.
One of my favorite posts here was in response to a photo from the late 60s of the Chama yard taken from high up on the tipple. The poster was complaining about how much had changed since then. Ironically the footings for the old coal trestle were right there in plain sight. Change happens.
