Linn,
Over the years we all have caught flak about not caring about preserving history. These well meaning people do not realize you cannot repair or save some parts that are over 100 years old. You have to fabricate new "fabric. This is especially true if you are restoring a historic piece of equipment to operating condition. In 20's case parts from engines 22 and 25 were used all over it. When 346's tender was rebuilt a couple of people complained about the rivets being cosmetic. I replied who can tell. The answer was, I know they are not functional rivets. Some times you have to do what it takes to accomplish the project. You have done, and are doing a remarkable job preserving the historic integrity of both these locomotives. There never was a plan to jack up the whistle and replace everything underneath.
