Orginally there was a tie plant in Alamsoa. About this time it was replaced by a new one in Salida. Timber was cut all around the narrow gauge for making mine timbers, bridge timbers, telephone and power poles.
Timber was cut on Cumbres Pass and loaded into cars on the tail of the wye which functioned as a spur.
