Here's what I was able to dig out:
No. 268 was shipped from Salida to Alamosa on a standard gauge flat car, then towed dead in train from Alamosa to Durango for use in the filming of "Denver & Rio Grande" in June / July of 1951. From the July, 1951 issue of "Narrow Gauge News," as reprinted on p. 72 of _Colorado Rail Annual_ No. 21.
The August, 1951 issue of "NG News" reported that filming with 268 was concluded on July 23, 1951.
The October, 1951 issue of "NG News" reported that No. 268 arrived in Gunnison on October 5, 1951.
No mention of how the return trip was made, but a reasonable guess is that probably No. 268 was towed dead in train from Durango to Alamosa, loaded on a flat car and shipped back to Salida, the reverse of the trip to Durango.
