This post shows the semi-nomadic live of the railroader. Durango engineman Bill Squires moves to Alamosa to find work. Here he catches a Chili Line run off the extra board because Henry Nissen called in sick.
A few month earlier Roy Buchannan, another Durango railroader was firing a switch engine in the Alamosa yard. Engineer Squires was No. 68 on the Jan. 1, 1937 list with 21 years on the railroad. Engineer Nissen was No. 41 with 29 years. In another 14 years he would have enough seniority to run the San Juan.
