I once saw a wonderful photograph that I should try to get a copy of. It was being used as part of a Fresno (Calif.) County display.
It is an overhead view of an SP crew switching the Sunshine Raisin Processing Plant. The engine was tender-toward the cut of cars being spotted on a center track. The track is curved with the center on the engineer's side.
The fireman (this is an oil fired engine) was leaning out his window and looking over the tender to a trainman standing on the top of the first box car. Further down the cut of cars was another trainman. Both of these men had their arms out and were passing signals to the engine crew.
