Yeah the condition of the engine in that and related videos I've seen eye opening to say the least. The apparent lack of materials like oil, fuel, and probably tools coupled with a people who have been kept in the dark their entire life really show in a way how durable a steam locomotive can be, until they run the water too low at least.
