It must have been lay-off day on the narrow gauge as John Dieckman and Thomas V. Cummins get engineer assignments out of Durango and Frank Perkins lays off trains 315-316. Dieckman and Cummins got to the right hand side of the cab because George Densmore and O.E. Vinton laid off.
There must have been some kind of bug going around in Alamosa as Chili Line fireman H.L. White was the third train or engine service employee to call off sick. That leads me to believe there were more sickies on the standard gauge list as well as those not in the train or engine service.
White was hired as a fireman on 11-20-1908 and promoted to engineer on 9-26-1917. He was No. 41 in 1937, between Henry Nissen and Frank Owenby. He was gone by 1940. Replacement fireman C.V. Brinsfield was hired on 9-22-1916 and promoted on 11-22-1922. He was 67th in 1937 and rose to No. 14 in 1958.
