Interresting to note that NNG D&RGW 588 was the last D&RGW locomotive to be scrapped, that partially happening on the San Luis Valley Southern in 1977. I remember as a child 588's cab, drivers and tender at the seen of the crime about 1979. I think the 588's tender is now behind the 683 at the Colorado Railroad Museum allthough Photographs earlier than 1945 show the 588 with a different yet and most likely not be in the one of circa 1909 at Salida. I wonder if the 683's(588) tender is even a C-28 tender because of its "modern" flair around the coal bunker on the tank? I have only seen only one other C-28 with this type of tender or tank out of the 75 locomotives of this class. Perhaps it came from the Rio Grande Western?
