I am still curious why M.C. Fitzer gave up his San Juan run. He was No. 2 in Durango at that time behind J.C. Basher, who had the switch engine.
I would imagine some of those rock cars were held for later. No narrow gauge engine the Rio Grande had could handle 53 loaded rock cars at once in that territory ~ close to 2,000 tons.
Fitzer may have taken the work train job to earn more money, a lot of overtime involved.
I believe the loading of 50 cars involves loading x number of cars, dumping them and loading them again.
