My advice: stick with styrofoam. Yeah, it's real messy, but very easy to sculpt, and if you can find a direct dealer like I did, it's decently priced too. Let's just say I used it over my entire empire, and it's great!
One tip though. If you go with styrofoam, get a hot wire cutter, and cut outside. The odor it produces is not pleasant, but outside you wouldn't know.
