To the best of my understanding, this is how it went down.

The CHS was given the landrights to the right of way and the Lebanon , everet and Hall, mine sites in 1958 , I believe it was.

They had erected a marker in ten years erlier on what used to be the sectin of US HWY 6 that went into Georgetown. The marker still stands.

In the early 1970's CHS was approached by what became GLR Inc, who were then operating a small tourist line in Central City, to see if they woudl be interested in a partnership to use the locomotives and coaches from the Central City Switchback Railroad to rebuild the Loop. Equiptment began to be moved to Silver Plume in 1973. By 1975 enough track was in place to begin operation. As time and money permitted the track was extended to Devils Gate.

A 1.1 Million dollar donation made possible the completion of the Devils Gate High Bridge in time for the railroads 100th anniversary in 1984 and the lower segment of the loop was finished a short time later on to where track ends today.

Thats the short vesion.
