Re: Serious help needed on C&S roster of 1948

Mac pretty much wrote the first book on his own. Some of his correspondence with the C&S Vice President's office still exists at the Colorado Historical Society.
You might want to check with the Colorado Railroad Museum. In CRA # 12, the South Park issue, the same fate is listed for both locomotives. You might want to give them a call and find out where they got their information, as Bob Richardson rarely left anything to chance or just copying.
You might even be looking in the wrong area of the country. Deerfield is a fairly common name. There are cities named Deerfield, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan (a good possibility), Ohio and Wisconsin. There is also a Deerfield River in Massachusetts.
The only reason that I think that Michigan is a good choice is because the Manistee & Luther, another logging recipient of C&S Locomotives is located there, but Wisconsin and Ohio might be good possibilities as Wisconsin had a lot of little logging lines and Ohio had a lot of 3' gauge.
