Serious help needed on C&S roster of 1948

In 1948 Mac C. Poor included a roster of the C&S locomotives in his famous DSP&P Book. In his roster he shows C&S #32 and #35 having ended up as Deerfield Railroad #1 & #2 after intermediate service in Mississippi and Missouri, respectively. Could anyone please indicate his possible source of this information showing Deerfield RR? Please, if you ever did any roster searching 50 years ago, or know of company records, which he might have read, pass me a clue. Do you know anyone who might know old Baldwin records on the engine #4926 and #4255, which could be the source of this mystery data?
There has never been any company known in the country having just the name Deerfield RR, as it was not the Deerfield River RR, a logging line off the Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington RR in Vermont. These engines never reached Vermont. The precessor of the HT&W was the Deerfield River Company’s Railroad but this was merged 1/1/1892 to form the new HT&W RR, and was not the time frame these engines were east of Colorado. Helping here will improve the C&S roster and also the HT&W, DRRR roster knowledge. Thanks in advance to any one for the slightest clue on this challenge. PRR
