W.H. Treskett was No. 13 in the 1937 list with a fireman's date of 11-9-1911 and an engineer's date of 6-30-1917. He was qualified for passenger train service as well but not as a rotary pilot/engineer.
Only 14 of the top 28 narrow gauge engineers were qualified to work as a pilot/engineer.
Andy Payne once told me how he got qualified to run as an engineer on the Monarch Branch. He simply took a certification trip with the Road Foreman of Engines. This was after the line was dieselized and standard gauged.
