I'm stunned there is still paint of any kind on it. My impression from outside the little weed infested and barb wire enclosed compound we saw it in near Leadville, and maybe helped by harsh late afternoon light, it looked bare.

The red color should be noted by all C&S enthusiasts who have speculated on how these cabooses were painted. Although #1006 was painstakingly stripped and documented during it's restoration over 20 years ago, this is raw and brand new information to most of two generations of us.
