This is pure speculation on my part. The #462 was the last mudhen to receive piston valves in August of 1929. Two months later, of course, the stock market crashed triggering the great depression. Any plans to install superheating to the #462 were probably put on hold. Many of the already superheated mudhens were put into storage, so it would seem that the updating on the #462 was a mute point.
When economic conditions improved, most of the work could be handled by the newer & larger power (the K28s, 36s, & 37s), so plans for any more conversions of the mudhens were probably dropped.
