Jerry,
Past musings on the Discussion Group have broached the issue of where the three Silverton railroads obtained water for their locomotives. As previously mentioned on this Group, the Silverton RR had a water tank a short distance down gradient from Chattanooga. The November 1900 reference to a water line in the SG&N engine house is supported by a photograph of the building's interior on page 351 of the Rainbow Route, which shows a water pipe and "fire" hose affixed to the center roof beams. After Mears leased the SG&N in 1910 (and acquired it in a foreclosure sale in 1915), the engine house would have been used by the SN locomotives.
