I'm pretty sure that the C&TS stayed with the one-way-train-one-way-bus format through the 1979 season. By the time I left in the spring of '79 the brochures were already in circulation and I don't remember there being any significant change from previous years.

re: Scenic's busses. They were purchased new in 1973 and were designed specifically for service on the mountain roads, but they probably didn't get the maintainance they needed given the shoestring nature of the operation.
One of the curses of the C&TS: the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, but its more than most people can swallow. Now if there was just some way we could cut, say, ten miles off each end. Wait a minute! Cumbres to Big Horn. OMG, can't do that.
