Here is my review.
Usually it seems when some magazine reviews one of my videos they always find something to complain about, so I will give you my thoughts.
There were a couple of shots that could have been deleted, and the whole video tightened up a little to make it slightly shorter, thus a little more fast paced.
Overall I give this little video high marks considering the rotary was not even steamed up. The tripod first of all is a great thing. So many videos are handheld where you get sick from the movement watching them. The camera work is good also, with slow pullbacks on the zoom when used, and some panning work which I like. Too many videos are simply lock down shots on the tripod where the train rolls into the viewfinder then goes away. The mind wants to see the train going away, but the camera never follows. So, seeing some panning is a good thing.
The human interest stuff is nice as well(although the brakemen stuff could have been shortened, but thats okay). What I liked most though was the three shots at the end, where you show the OY in daylight, dissolve to the dusk shot, and then to the night shot. That was very well done, in both planning and execution.
While I generally don't care much for videos of dead engines, the OY is okay cause at least there is the 487 steaming to move it. And for the historical value you could say that you may have one of the few shots of OY moving in 2010, and the 1970 version 483 is also unique.
Overall well done Jason. Keep up the good work.
