About 8 members of the track crew took turns with the rail drill. Most of the drilling was for matching up comp joints in the step down from 50lb to 40lb rail. The rest of the drilling was for guard rails for the new switch. A sharp bit and the use of cutting oil helped ease the process. The upgraded mainline is now 50lb down through the new switch and steps down to 40lb then 33lb right before the water tank building.

The heaviest rail the Maine Two-Footers used was 60lb and most of the WW&F mainline is 56 and 60lb so we have not had to drill through 90lb.
