D&RGW Combine 212 and 215

September 26, 2010 01:35PM
So I have read the basic published info in books that says that the 212 and 215 swapped car numbers before one was sold to Mexico. What I am trying to do is figure out what to do with the (2) 212 combines that I own in Sn3. Both models are in very similar configuration with the ladders and a roofwalk. One is a PBL green factory painted model with the ladders and a roofwalk. That one will stay like it is - Circa 1941, the way it appeared briefly before being painted orange.

Here's what I need help with. The other PSC model also does not have a cupola, and I'd like to model it as the 215 after the cupola was removed, and before the car number was changed. This model also has the ladders and a roofwalk. I have not seen photos or detailed records for this short lived moment of the cupola being removed and the car with the 215 number.

One other question is: Was it painted red or green after the cupola was removed? Or was all of this cupola removal, repainting and renumbering all done at once while in the Alamosa shop?

Thanks!
