Yes, welding would be easier and more economical, but nobody regrets the use of rivets. Maynard wanted the tank to be as accurate as possible, right down to the construction methods.

Regarding leaks, if you look closely at the rivet holes and joints, you will notice a red substance. This is a sealant that is used on every hole and joint.Hopefully it helps prevent rust.
