Two more photos of the C&C from the air. The first is of Luning. There's not a lot to see, but it gives you a sense of the desolate area the C&C ran through.
The second photo is another shot of the west side of Montgomery Pass. It's interesting because it shows the location of the two earlier highways in the bottom of the canyon, the railroad right of way hugging the hill side, and the modern highway. It also shows how unobtrusive a railroad grade is compared to our modern method of transportation. The deep basalt C&C cut that was the scene of a fatal 1923 accident is in the lower middle left of the photo:
