Derailments here are indeed rare and do have to be reported. I'm sure on the Rio Grande Southern the Goose was probably on the ground pretty often and probably gotten back on even faster than the 10 minutes that it took us last week, with no reporting other than a note on the delay sheet. The big delay came from getting the equipment and track inspected afterward and other official formalities.
At least on the narrow gauge, rerailing frogs have always been (and are still) carried on all of the steam locomotives.
Ecuador does indeed sound like more fun. I for one would love to see some pictures.
