My wife likes the places we go in pursuit of ng railroads, even if it's in a rented car in Norway north of the Arctic Circle, in a remote area in Greece (found the only 2 operating steam engines in the country), or railfanning the Glacier Express in Austria & Switzerland. We have a 650 foot garden railway which was her idea, not mine. She's built some of the structures and bought some of the engines so it's more than "being a good sport".
