The high side gon was badly damaged some time back, and I don't recall when, as the D&S was making an equipment move, I believe involving the 493, and the Uintah water car and the crane started moving down grade on the spur and in a very short distance ran into the string of parked cars. The coupler of the crane rode up on top of the gon's coupler and because that crane is very heavy, the weight of the crane pushed the gon's coupler down and broke the sills on that end of the car. The one end is as I put it, crunched.
Preliminary plans for any SN rebuild are from the powerhouse location, just past tailings pond #4, about one mile out of town, through the Animas Canyon, to Howardsville, almost exactly 2.5 miles. There would be no connection with the D&S or the new SN track being built for the 315. There are no discussions about building to Eureka. And Animas Forks was barely feasible in 1906 and is not even a consideration now. Engine and car facilities as required would be at the powerhouse. These is no plan or agreement to use the 315 on the rebuild. We have one potential operator interested in operating this should things work out. We need a thorough feasibilty study and determination of accessibility to the right-of-way needed before anything. Discussions with funding sources for a feasibility study are set for late September.
