Answering the second question, yes, _Diamond Jim Brady_, with Eddie Arnold, was filmed on the Pacific Coast RR. The wreck was staged with the coaches prepared to telescope, and the one chained to the rails so the "steel" car would telescope it. Hollywood used masonite and tacks to make one of the PC's wooden coaches look like a steel car for the movie.
