John:
I am working on a walking tour brochure for Cumbers pass and surrounding area. Do you have any data concerning when structures were built and unbuilt in that location? I am particularly interested in the water supply. Most of the reading that I have done only suggest periods of time and are not very specific. I know that the original water supply for locomotives was a wind mill and pump house located next to the tail track of the wye and must have been constructed about 1881or 2. My reading says that it was changed to diesel at a later date and of course was replaced along with the water tank by the present spring fed cystern "sometime in the 30's"??????? There is still a building there although it does not appear to be in the same site but it looks like the pictures of the original pump house. I am also interested in when the bunk house was removed. I know the station was removed in 1954 after the agency was closed in 1951 with the demise of the San Juan passenger train. Any info would be a help.
Sincerely:
Frank
