Most of the equipment, including locomotives, were shipped over from the USA. Locomotives were mainly supplied by Baldwin, but also from others. The British army also bought Baldwins as well as UK built locos.

There is a superb book on the subject, "Narrow Gauge to No Man's Land" by Richard Dunn, which has recently been reprinted.
