Hi Roger et al -
After the evening's switching is done, the hostlers take over from the engine crew - see
[
ngdiscussion.net], [
ngdiscussion.net] and [
ngdiscussion.net] for pics of an engine being
serviced
and cleaned.
With a tight budget this year, I'm guessing there is maybe one less hostler on board, and just not enough time to thoroughly clean the engines after every trip. And as Ashley and I learned on 05/25, just rinsing the jacket doesn't work - a bit of dish soap and a little scrubbing does a great job, however. How about hiring a high-school kid or two to wash at least #489 - which really shows it when the soot builds up - at least once a week or so?
