So what do you think the engine configuration might have been on these two three-engine runs to Cumbres?
What a day that would have been to be railfaning out of Chama, eh! Shoot the 498 heading west then the 3-engine turn to Cumbres. Then after super you could try to follow the flanger train up the hill to Cumbres...then head back to Chama and wait for Santa.
I think if I were a crew headed up there in 1964 I would have had visions of 491 stuck in my head as I headed out of Chama at 8pm on a quiet Christmas Eve! Seems like the line from Chama to Antonito would have felt even more remote on Christmas Eve, but perhaps somehow calming!!!
