Trucks are one of the most expensive pieces of hardware on a car.
The WW&F caboose is operating on new wheelsets, purchased just a year or so after it was built. The Ramsdell wheels are too far worn to be safe. Those wheelsets cost $8,800, just for the wheels and axles.
We got the wheelsets from McKees-Rock (I believe), who does specialty wheelsets. I understand they farmed out the pressing of the wheels to another company, which ended up breaking several axles before getting 4 good wheelsets. McKees-Rock swallowed the cost of the broken axles, and now no longer will press on wheels.
Trucks we build on-site, as archbar trucks are rather simple to build. A local foundry does all our castings for us, including the journal boxes.
