Our crew scrapped and painted this car during the last work session (D). Many of you know Don Stewart and he adds this info. to what already is known.

This is indeed #9378 and is originally a 4 board gon and one of the oldest cars in the yard. It does have the wooden draft gear and a diff. striker plate of an earlier vintage. (Not sure if it was backdated by the Friends.) The "high side" gons were rebuilt from 4 board gons in 1924 to increase their capacity. The split stakes were added to good stakes to support the 5th board. If the side stake was bad, the whole stake was replaced. The split stakes were usually towards the center of the car, but like with most NG equipment, there were exceptions. This, along with many other recently painted cars, will be lettered in August.
