Re: Update on Ecuador - 2010 a disaster!

If one goes to the EFE flicker website, one would believe that work is progressing. However this seems to confirm that all of the millions that are being thrown at this railroad, is not being used wisely.

We were informed about three months ago that only a railbus tour would be possible over the Sibambe, Riobamba to Urbina route. Maybe a steam loco might be availble from Latacunga to Quito. This news makes it neccessary to delay any plans for tours till 2011.

I too wonder how some other tour operators don't fess up and cancel for the reasons above. Seems to be tricking the consumer to think that all is going well? They are offering the same itinerary that was floated in 2008-9 and canceled by both companies that were to host tours. Canceled due to the same conditions that were noted in Micheals posting above.
