Just ocurred to me that there HAVE been locomotives operated 'recently' with numbers other than their 'official number' -- which would be on their form 4 and periodic inspection reports. Re: 614T nee C&O 614, and I don't remember the temporary number applied when UP3985 masqueraded as a Clinchfield Challenger years ago are two that come to mind. I think NKP 765 has been temporarily relettered a couple times also. Bet train orders, etc. did match what was temporarily numbered on the locomotives, but highly unlikely new form 4 and inspection card numbers were generated for these 'temporary' operations.

Shay 7 [c/n 3345] appeared on at least SOME records as #107, though she always carried #7 while on OLCO/SV lines.
