I just got back from Antonito where, in order to prevent a general uprising of the railfan com-
munity, all traces of chrome trim have been removed from #489. when I returned from a late
lunch at about 2:45, Max and his helper were just getting finished with refreshing the heat-
resistant aluminium paint on #489's smokebox & stack. IMHO she looks pretty darn good:

p.s. Marvin said they plan to pull #489 outside and fire her up first thing tomorrow morning (~ 5:00 a.m.?).
pps. Jeff Stebbins was there for a while; he has been told that he'll be our engineer on the 25th!
